Val Coles ControllerKencoil has been a manufacturer of formed AC and DC coils used in manufacturing, as well in aftermarket repair since 1982. With over 48,000 square feet of manufacturing floor, Kencoil operates a state of the art operation. Kencoil wanted to emulate this state of the art operation in their other business processes, and time and attendance was a trouble spot for them. |
The Challenge:
Although Kencoil had a time and attendance system in place, they had some new and challenging integration requirements that their incumbent vendor was unable to fulfill. The first was integrating with their Solomon Accounting Payroll system. Using the time and attendance system already in place, this process required duplicate manual entry. This was unacceptable to Kencoil as it was inefficient and fraught with potential for errors.
The second issue was cost accounting. Kencoil wanted to account for every hour worked by every employee on each job in the shop, every day of the work week. This was not possible with the system already in place. Kencoil discussed their time and attendance requirements with their Solomon consultant, David Siegel, of Roux Business Systems.
"Kencoil had some very complex issues to deal with. I knew Employee Based Systems had just completed the re-write of their time and attendance system to a fully web based, SQL based technology. Of all the time and attendance companies I knew of, I thought Employee Based Systems was the one who would be able to get the job done." - David Siegel, President, Roux Business Systems
Technology:
In keeping with the way they ran the manufacturing operation, technology was an important factor for them. The fact that EBSTime was based on the Microsoft .net framework and was SQL based was important to Kencoil. And along these lines, the third important requirement was Kencoil had involved the manner in which time punches were uploaded from the time and attendance system to Solomon. Kencoil wanted a direct database-to-database transfer from time and attendance to Solomon. The incumbent was able to provide only text file export of the time punches. Since EBSTime was SQL based, it could easily accommodate the direct database transfers.
"Employee Based Systems was the one vendor who was able to meet all of the technical and accounting requirements that we had." - Val Coles, Controller
