The RSCVA acts as the marketing organization the county of Washoe in Nevada, to promote convention and tourism business. Unlike most other convention and visitor bureaus across the country, the RSCVA owns and operates several facilities designed to attract out of town visitors to the Reno – Tahoe area. The Reno Sparks Convention Center has 500,000 square feet of fully adaptable exhibition and meeting space. The Reno Events Center is built for entertainment from rock concerts to boxing matches and has over 7,000 seats. The National Bowling Stadium is the only facility of its kind in the world and was dubbed by the Los Angeles Times as the Taj Mahal of Tenpins”. The Bowling Stadium was designed with the championship bowler in mind and features a four story atrium, 75 bowling lanes, and the longest video screen in the world (440 feet across). The RSCVA also operates two golf courses, as well as a livestock arena and center for rodeos and livestock shows. This diversity of venues and the staffing of these venues needed some unique requirements for its time and attendance system.

Diverse Requirements:

The RSCVA has over 30 cost centers, and 500 employees. Twenty three of these cost centers process their own payroll. The Reno Sparks employee base fluctuates seasonally from 300 to 500 employees depending on the events scheduled. So the RSCVA needed a system that could handle 23 different payrolls, cost accounting requirements, and the time entries for people in offices, and onsite at the various event centers throughout the Reno-Tahoe area. The RSCVA is a fast paced environment, with constantly changing shows and events in its various venues, so it also needed a system that was flexible and could accommodate quick changes along with the multiple venues. At the time they began their search for a time and attendance system, until then everything was being handled manually. In addition to the complex requirements they had, the RSCVA wanted to streamline the payroll process, and insure that their system would integrate well with their Abra payroll system. Since RSCVA is under the auspices of the county, the requirements were put out for bid in an RFP.

After a thorough evaluation of three vendors including the two top vendors in the industry, Employee Based Systems was selected as the vendor for the required system.

Today, the RSCVA utilizes the EBSTime Suite in all its venues. Time entry is done with time clocks in all of its venues with the exception of the people who work in the administration offices. Here the EBSPunch product is used for data entry. Reno Sparks has been using the EBSTime Suite for over six years and has recently upgraded to the fully Web based version of the product.
