SWANSON SERVICES CORPORATION

Swanson Services Corporation (SSC) is a family owned, diversified services corporation which has been in operation since 1983. The Company has evolved from a very tiny vending company to become the corporate leader in its industry. SSC specializes in providing a variety of essential services to the Federal prison systems. SSC provides software and services which enable their clients to manage such services as laundries and commissaries, resident banking and fiduciary services, and data storage and retrieval. SSC today has over 439 employees. Each week, through its network of 22 service centers, SSC services over 110,000 residents in 43 states.

Challenges

At the time SSC engaged Employee Based Systems, they were faced with a variety of problematic issues which needed to be handled. According to Lynn Whitfield, Director of HR and Payroll at SSC:

“Time and Attendance information for 439 employees was being faxed from our 22 service centers and manually entered into our Abra payroll system. Solutions

EBS was able to provide a solution which seemed tailor made. All the time sheets which were being entered were from hourly SSC employees. So, the Web Punch was the perfect fit. Utilizing kiosks in each facility, all employees are now able to enter their time. Some additional valuable features provided by the software were the ability for employees to view their leave balances from Abra Attendance, to request time off for vacation or leave of absence. In addition, the supervisors at the 22 SSC service centers could easily approve time sheets online, rather than by reviewing large numbers of paper time sheets. Another important consideration was the fact that the 22 service center locations spanned almost every time zone in the USA. The EBSTime system automatically adjusts time zones, so this made things much easier for the SSC management and payroll teams. EBSTime is truly an enterprise wide application.
